    II Marine Expeditionary Force

CHERRY POINT, N.C. - Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 252 welcomed a new sergeant major Dec. 10 during a relief and appointment ceremony at the squadron’s hangar.

Sgt. Maj. Misitupa Tueichi relinquished his post as sergeant major of VMGR-252 to Sgt. Maj. Rickey V. Jackson. Tueichi has served as the squadron’s senior enlisted advisor since December 2012.

During Misitupa’s year-long term, he opened the flood gates and never stopped moving forward, said Lt. Col. Walter Butler, commanding officer of VMGR-252. He was passionate about his work, the Marine Corps and showed compassion toward the Marines in his unit, said Butler.

Jackson comes to Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point after serving as the sergeant major of Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 261, New River, NC.

“Sometimes it’s not the process that makes things work,” said Butler. “It’s the personality that makes things work. This is part of what makes us such a unique squadron.”

Jackson has been meritoriously promoted three times in his career. He said he plans to better the Marines through education and emphasizing NCO leadership courses for all noncommissioned officers.

“For me, this will be a different and bigger challenge,” said Jackson. “Otis is all over the world, and I can’t wait to get out and see the great job the Marines are doing all over.”

Jackson has been deployed four times in his career. This includes two combat deployments – one to Somalia and one to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Jackson’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals and four Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals.
