INDIANAPOLIS - The Victory Center is home to the Save Our Veterans organization, where many Veterans find comfort and career training near downtown Indianapolis. Save Our Veterans provided more than 100 veterans with meals and career assistance in honor of Veteran’s Day, in Indianapolis, Ind., Nov. 11.

Victor Wakley, president of Save Our Veterans, started the organization in 2009, inspired by the passion of service men and women returning from tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. Save Our Veterans was initially inspired by a “brain child” idea that Victor had to support homeless veterans.

“Veterans hold amazing employable skill sets that we can help nourish and develop, many employers would be glad to put their logistical, IT and other skills to problem solving for large industry challenges. Vets simply add value to business," said Wakley.

Providing meals for Veteran’s Day is a small addition to the other services like resumes writing and career placement. Save Our Veterans prides themselves on networking with numerous industry corporations to provide careers for thousands of Hoosiser Veterans. Corporations like JetBlue, Fedex and Airgas work with Save Our Veterans to match Veterans' military skill sets to add value to the corporate world. This year alone Save Our Veterans has helped more than 50 motivated veterans find career placement.

Diane Martinez, the vice president at Save Our Veterans, holds a heavy background in non-profit work and she has been given guidance to expand the mission to include residential and counseling services in the future.

“We work with civilian corporate recruiters to pair the nation’s finest on career paths for success, their leadership skills and dedication are needed in the work place and corporate world," said Martinez.

To continue to gain support within the Indianapolis community and from corporate sponsors, Save Our Veterans will be hosting and providing meals during the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.

“Veterans must know that our organization stands to support them and that they are the backbone of our nation, and we are their backbone," said Martinez. "Providing meals and services during the holidays helps to raise awareness to the other services that we provide”.

Save Our Veterans is one organization within the Indianapolis area that you can expect to see continuous growth and expansion from. They are dedicated to serving the nation’s best and providing training programs that add value to Veterans in the future.

The Save Our Veterans slogan is, “They never stand alone" - as long as positive organizations like this exist, then American veterans will have an ally.
