MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. – The stadium lights were bright and the cold fall air set the stage for an old-fashioned gridiron showdown. The Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Falcons defeated the 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion Highlanders 29-6 to advance to the championship game at Paige Field House aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., Nov. 12.

The Falcons arrived to the field with one thing in mind, to let nothing stop them from reaching the championship game.

Miramar jumped on top first as they handed the ball to Austin Trease, Falcons’ running back, who lowered his shoulder and broke through the line from three yards out, making the score 6-0.
The Falcons went to Trease again in a similar situation later in the first quarter, putting Miramar up 13-0.

The Falcons stumbled midway through the second quarter as Casey Rogers, Falcons’ quarterback, threw an interception allowing the Highlanders to score making it 13-6.

Miramar regained composure with time expiring in the second quarter when Rogers lobbed a 15 yard pass to Sergeant Dallas, Falcons’ wide receiver. Dallas, in tight coverage from a Highlander defender, jumped up and put two hands on the ball, scoring with .7 seconds left in the first half and giving Miramar control of the game with a score of 19-6.

“Everybody came out and put forth a full effort,” said Rogers. “We played a great game and executed in all four quarters.”

The Falcons scored an additional ten points, making the final score 29-6 and ending the Highlanders’ season.

“The game plan is to come out and practice hard and execute,” said Carlice Moffett, Falcons head coach. “We are going to be prepared for next week’s game.”

The team has been focused on the championship game for five months and hopefully we can take home the trophy, added Rogers. The Falcons advance to the championship game against the 9th Communications Battalion Freqs, Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. at Paige Field House
