GHAZNI PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Afghan National Security Forces killed two insurgents and destroyed seven improvised explosive devices Nov. 11 in Ghazni province’s Gelan district.

Afghan National Army Special Forces led a combined security patrol of Afghan Local Police and Afghan Uniformed Police through Eshan Kalai village to strengthen security in the district after multiple insurgent attacks on ALP checkpoints.

During the patrol, more than 15 insurgents attacked the ANSF with machine gun and sniper fire after security forces discovered and destroyed the roadside bombs. The ANSF repelled the attack killing the insurgents in the process.

"Our successes in Gelan clearly demonstrate that the cowardly Taliban cannot defeat the brave warriors and people of Afghanistan,” said district police Chief Maj. Ali Ramazon. “And by the will of God [the people] will be repaid in kind when it is their time.”

Afghan National Security Forces are demonstrating the ability to hold key population centers and lines of communication, despite localized increases in violence and persistent insurgent influence in the rural areas of South and East Afghanistan.

“The Taliban are outsiders and foreigners who gain power by abusing the people of Afghanistan,” said Ramazon.

There were no civilian or ANSF casualties during this firefight.
