MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. – The title of “Best in the West” is up for grabs as the “do or die” mentality of the playoffs begins. The stadium lights set the stage for an outstanding display of power and skill as the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Falcons trampled the Marine Air Support Squadron 3 Blacklists 39-0 at Paige Field House aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., Nov. 5.

The Falcons started to work from the first whistle and never looked back. Miramar started the assault early in the first quarter as Casey Rogers, Falcons’ quarterback, connected with Jeremy Rodriguez, Falcons’ wide receiver, from 25 yards out making the score 6-0.

The Falcons had control of momentum and took flight as they performed on a different level than their competition. The Falcons took to the air as they scored again with help from wide receiver Eric Campbell. Rogers received the snap in the shotgun position and rolled left, pursued by a crew of Blacklists. Rogers, throwing on the run, found Campbell for a 55 yard touchdown putting Miramar up 21-0.

“Our receivers were catching the ball and the offensive line was doing a great job,” said Rogers. “I give the offensive line all the credit in the world and our defense was doing a great job as well.”

The Falcons’ defense contributed to the game as they didn’t allow the Blacklist to score and forced a safety late in the second quarter making the score 29-0. Miramar sealed the game in the second quarter, controlling all the momentum after putting up 39 points.

“The preparation prior to the game was great and it showed on the field,” said Master Gunnery Sgt. Carlice Moffett, Miramar Falcons’ head coach.

As time expired, the Falcons advanced to the next round of the playoffs and ended the Blacklists’ season.

“We are going to go back and study film. We still had some mistakes, believe it or not, so we are going to work hard at practice to get ready for the remainder of the playoffs,” added Moffett.

The Falcons will face the winner between the 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion Highlanders and 11th Marine Cannon Cockers. Miramar will retake the field Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m.
