CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. — Marines with I Marine Expeditionary Force will conduct an activation ceremony for the I MEF (Forward) command Wednesday.

Brig. Gen. Daniel Yoo, commanding general, I MEF (Fwd), and Sgt. Maj. Douglas Berry, sergeant major, I MEF (Fwd), will uncase the unit’s battle colors during the ceremony.

Lt. Gen. John A. Toolan, commanding general, I MEF, will attend and deliver remarks.

I MEF (Fwd) will deploy to Helmand province, southwest Afghanistan, early 2014, and take over responsibility and command of Regional Command (Southwest) from II Marine Expeditionary Force, based out of Camp Lejeune, N.C.

I MEF (Fwd) transferred authority of RC (SW) to II MEF, February 28, 2013.
