YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea - The top U.S. Army command in South Korea revitalized its physical readiness training program.

Starting on Oct. 21, Eighth Army increased physical readiness training from five one-hour workouts a week to five 90-minute workouts a week.

Eighth Army Command Sgt. Maj. Ray A. Devens said the renewed focus on physical readiness training is designed to keep all Eighth Army soldiers combat ready, regardless of branch or occupational specialty.

"Physical readiness training is the most important group training Eighth Army soldiers do each day," said Devens.

"Fitness is the foundation of everything we do," said Devens. "Mental and physical toughness are the keys to success in life, both on and off the battlefield."

According to Devens, the new daily workouts are focused on progressive improvement and small unit leader development.

"We will not only change how we think about warrior fitness but also how we train ourselves and our soldiers," said Devens, an Army Ranger from Cape Coral, Fla.

"Eighth Army is strong and getting stronger," said Devens.
