    ANSF detain two suspected insurgents in Khogyani

    NANGARHAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan- Afghan National Security Forces detained two suspected insurgents during a firefight near Babakarhel village Oct. 6 in Khogyani district.

    While conducting clearing operations in the village, 1st Special Operations Kandak Commandos were attacked by two suspected insurgents hiding in a tower.

    The province is known to have insurgent support zones, said Afghan National Army Commando Maj. Hazar Amiri, 1st Special Operations Kandak executive officer.

    “The area we operated in was a very dangerous area,” said Amiri. “We train hard to ensure that we are an effective fighting force, capable of providing security for our people and to our nation. This way we are certain that we have done everything in our power to protect our people and not cause them harm.”

    The detainees were transferred to the custody of Babakarhel National Directorate of Security.

    Since the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan’s announcement of Tranche 5/ Milestone 2013, Afghan National Security Forces have irreversibly taken the lead for Afghanistan’s security.

    No civilians were injured and there were no reported structural damages during this operation.
