SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. – This week’s Third Army/ARCENT Soldier of the Week is Spc. Daniela E. Bammerlin, Third Army/ARCENT medic. Bammerlin joined the U.S. Army in 2010 at the age of 18 and was assigned to Third Army/ARCENT in 2011, this being her first duty station. Bammerlin said she aspires to be a commissioned officer in the Army and a veterinarian.

    Q: What are your hobbies?

A: I like to sketch and draw, hopefully someday in the future I can make my own comic book.

Q: What do you enjoy doing most during your free time?

A: Spending time with my family, particularly with my ever-growing daughter.

Q: What are your short/long term professional goals?

A: My short term is to become a veterinarian technician and my long term goal is to become a veterinarian.

Q: When did you make the decision to become a soldier and why?

A: I made my decision to become a soldier as a senior in high school. When I met with some recruiters I was very impressed with their character and because they did not actively persuade me, I felt comfortable that I was making my own decision given the options they laid out before me.

Q: If you could take a vacation to a location of your choice, where would you go?

A: I would go to Europe, but more than anything Germany, because everyone I speak to, speaks so highly of Germany.

Q: What do you enjoy most about being a soldier?

A: I enjoy the feeling that I am independent but not alone.

Q: If you could change one thing about the Army, what would you change and why?

A: I wish I could polish the role of what a leader should stand for. I appreciate the job of a leader but I wish all leaders lived up to the profound role of a person that can stand as an example for soldiers.

Q: If you could hold a different position in ARCENT for one day, what position would you choose?

A: I would be in the position of Third Army/ARCENT sergeant major. I believe it is necessary to make a difference when handling the lives of soldiers and grooming them to be great leaders, so I would be the sergeant major because they have that opportunity.
