    85th Support Command

Story by 1st Lt. Ashley Alameda

FORT BLISS, Texas - Two Army Reserve units combined change of command ceremonies during their battle assembly training on Sept. 9 at the Armed Forces Reserve Center.

The 2206th and 2208th Mobilization Support Battalions, 2nd Mobilization Support Group, 85th Support Command, bid farewell to each of their commanders, while welcoming new faces of leadership.

Lt. Col. Stephen E. Krebs commanded the 2206 Mobilization Support Battalion since the unit activated at Fort Bliss in July 2009. He relinquished the responsibility of command to Lt. Col. Bradford M. Shaw, who recently finished his assignment as the Division West’s Liaison Officer for Pre-Deployment Site Survey.

Shaw shared words of encouragement to the soldiers of the 2206th Mobilization Support Battalion as they stood in formation.

“I promise to lead you as a team and not as individuals. As a team we will be strong and smart,” said Shaw. “Together we will have the opportunity to exceed expectations and set new standards.”

Lt. Col. Michael Karns assumed command of the 2208th Mobilization Support Battalion from Maj. Benjamin Lindsey, who was unavailable to attend the ceremony.

“It is an honor and a privilege to be here and given this responsibility to be in front of the troops,” said Karns, “I have great confidence in everything I have seen in my short time here and the great legacy the 2208th has built. We will continue to carry forward and build a greater one.”

Karns recently returned from Afghanistan as the Civil-Military Support Team commander for the Parwan province.

Col. Kimberly Bodoh, 2nd MSG commander, based out of Fort Sill, Okla., was also in attendance for both ceremonies. Bodoh challenged the new commanders and gave them some words of advice.

“I charge you to embrace the imperatives of command, which is the successful mission execution and taking care of soldiers. Commit yourselves to these imperatives, and I am confident success will follow," Bodoh said. “The foundation has been laid, and I challenge you and your team to improve on the unit’s readiness and to take that bar even higher.”

The ceremony, featuring the Bel Aire High School JROTC Color Guard, was followed by a reception.
