BISMARCK, N.D. — Three soldiers with North Dakota Army National Guard’s 1919th Contingency Contracting Team were welcomed home to North Dakota this afternoon by family, friends and loved ones. The unit is comprised of four soldiers, each with specialized skills in planning, coordinating and issuing contracts for supplies and services required for supporting U.S. military forces in the field. The commander of the unit, Maj. Mike Lowe, of Bismarck, arrived in North Dakota last month.

“We are thrilled to welcome home to North Dakota the members of the 1919th Contingency Contracting Team after a nine-month deployment to Qatar and Afghanistan,” said Gov. Jack Dalrymple. “These soldiers were tasked with a specialized and important mission, and they performed it with great skill and success. We are proud of these guardsmen and grateful to them and their families for their distinguished service.”

The soldiers trained for a year prior to their deployment to hone their highly specialized skills. The soldiers arrived back in the U.S. last week and completed their demobilization process at Camp Shelby, Miss.

“The members of the 1919th CCT did an outstanding job using their professional contracting skills while deployed, and we are so happy to welcome them back home alongside their family and friends,” said Maj. Gen. David Sprynczynatyk, North Dakota adjutant general. “These soldiers performed an integral mission as a combat multiplier during the global war on terror, and we thank them for their honorable service.”

The 1919th CCT soldiers are based out of Bismarck and, as a small team, their deployment experience was unique because they were dispersed individually to Afghanistan and Qatar. The soldiers were responsible for contracting support with civilian organizations, which included American contractors, in-country contractors, and foreign businesses.

A formal send-off to honor the soldiers was held last November and, after mobilization training, they arrived in Qatar and Afghanistan in December. The unit’s Freedom Salute, a formal welcome home event, is scheduled in Bismarck, Dec. 7.

Sgt. 1st Class Heidi Sigl, of Bismarck, was North Dakota’s senior noncommissioned officer on the deployment. Other unit members are Staff Sgt. Cody Martin and Staff Sgt. Curtis Richter.
