FORT WAINWRIGHT, Alaska - Soldiers of 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division conducted Military Operations on Urban Terrain training at the Fort Wainwright Combined Arms Collective Training Facility, Aug. 12-29.

The MOUT training involved complex coordination between vehicle assets, soldiers and unit leadership. The proper employment of assets at the platoon level was the primary focus of the training.
“This training is vital for the development of platoon leadership, platoon cohesion and the development of standard operating procedures,” said 1st Lt. David Holck, first platoon leader, B Company, 1/24 IN, a native of Las Vegas, Nev. “This training gives platoon leadership the ability to develop their (soldiers).”

The training allowed soldiers to train on a full-scale village, complete with a city hall, hospital, apartments and more. Soldiers focused on tactical movement as a team within an urban environment, as well as entering and securing the complex buildings that the CACTF had to offer.

“My favorite part of this training is going inside the objective buildings and clearing rooms, conducting the initial breach on the objective building is awesome,” said Pfc. Lemarr James, a native of Augusta, Ga.

The training culminated in a full-scale assault on the CACTF: Platoons secured sections of the village with their Stryker infantry carrier vehicles, while soldiers moved on foot to secure and clear several buildings. The opposing force occupying the village provided resistance to help create a more realistic and challenging training environment.

“It is vital that soldiers sustain urban operations training,” said Sgt. 1st Class James Sink, platoon sergeant, B Company, 1/24 IN. “Conducting training at the CACTF and sustaining urban operations helps lead Soldiers to success in combat and gives them the confidence necessary to perform under fire.”
