FORT WORTH, Texas - Fort Worth District Civil Engineer Rebecca Ward will receive a Hispanic Engineers National Achievement Award Cooperation’s Luminary award at the organization's 25th Anniversary Great Minds in STEM Conference, Oct. 3-5, in New Orleans.

Ward, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Office engineer/facilities assessment trainer from the Lackland Medical Area Office on Joint Base San Antonio – Lackland, was recognized as one of several Hispanic professionals in science, technology, engineering and math as well as for her significant contributions to the Hispanic technical community.

Ward is considered not only an exceptional engineer but is also recognized as role model for students from grade school to college for her STEM outreach efforts in and around the San Antonio area.

“Rebecca’s receiving this prestigious national award is huge because not only is she a top engineer, but she is also a role model to students as she mentors and educates these future engineers and scientists through her outreach efforts,” said Col. Charles Klinge, commander, Fort Worth District.

Ward, a four-year Corps employee was the very first graduate from the University of Incarnate Word Engineering program, earning her engineering degree in 2006 when she returned to college as an adult and a mom, and her career has continued to progress.

“I went back to school because of, not in spite of my children, and I thought if ‘I’m going to ask you to go to college and do something with your life, I’d better lead by example,’” said Ward.
