Afghan National Security Forces kill insurgents, reclaim check points

KUNDUZ PROVINCE, Afghanistan- - Members of the Afghan National Army Special Forces and Afghan National Police reclaimed two checkpoints recently overran by insurgents during an operation Aug. 23 in Kunduz province’s Dasht-e Archi district.

Afghan Local Police lost the checkpoint Aug. 21 when an estimated 30 insurgents attacked the heavily outnumbered ALP. Immediately, Afghan Special Forces and commandos developed a plan to regain control of the ALP posts. The mission was a success and resulted in four insurgents killed and another four wounded, retaking the Ham Jawar and Haj Ghofur checkpoints.

“The ALP does as much as they can to protect the villagers on their own, but if they need help, they can depend on the ANASF for assistance,” Kunduz provincial spokeman Enaytullah Khaliq said. “This collaboration has been very effective and important.”

No civilian casualties were reported during this operation.

“The result of having Afghan Local Police in Dasht-e Archi district has been very positive,” Khaliq said. “They have been able to collaborate well with the ANASF, working with them during operations. Together, they have eliminated insurgents, making the enemy weak and incapable of fighting face to face.”

The ANASF are elite Afghan soldiers who conduct high-risk counterinsurgency operations in order to enable conditions for improved security, governance, and development. The Afghan National Security Forces are assuming the lead for stability across Afghanistan through joint operations and demonstrating that progress is real and tangible.
