MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP S.D. BUTLER, OKINAWA, Japan - Sgt. Maj. Patrick L. Kimble relinquished his duties as the sergeant major of Marine Corps Installations Pacific and Marine Corps Base Camp Smedley D. Butler during a relief ceremony today on Camp Foster.

Kimble served as the last sergeant major of Marine Corps Bases Japan and the first sergeant major of Marine Corps Installations Pacific. MCBJ deactivated and MCIPAC activated Sept. 30, 2011.

Under his guidance, MCIPAC spearheaded multiple campaigns to reinforce core values and ensure the positive impact of Marines and sailors on the surrounding communities. Additionally, during Kimble's tenure, MCIPAC improved the quality of life of single Marines and sailors by raising awareness about the single Marine program and providing the program with a new facility. Kimble also helped initiate regular meetings with senior enlisted leaders on Okinawa that strengthened the relationship between commands and enhanced professional military education for all U.S. service members.

After thanking many who supported him during his tenure, Kimble offered advice to Marines and guests attending the ceremony.

"Being a Marine is a love affair of the heart," said Kimble. "If you don't love what you are doing, if you don't love being a Marine, then maybe it is time to pack your bags and go.

"If you have a positive attitude . it will take you a long way in life," said Kimble.

Kimble will be reassigned as the sergeant major of 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, I Marine Expeditionary Force in Miramar, Calif.

Kimble's replacement will be Sgt. Maj. Robert K. Williamson, who is currently serving as the sergeant major for Headquarters and Service Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island.
