    II Marine Expeditionary Force

CHERRY POINT, N.C. - More than 230 members of Marine Wing Support Squadron 271 conducted training while supporting Exercise Eager Hawk Aug. 12-16 at Marine Corps Auxiliary Landing Field Bogue.

The exercise offers the “Workhorse of the Wing” an opportunity to conduct high-tempo operations in an austere environment, practice core capabilities and establish a forward operating base.
MWSS-271 conducted water purification and distribution, electricity generation, road and culvert construction, airfield repair, forward arming and refueling point operations and convoy operations.

During convoy training, Motor transportation Marines also rehearsed immediate action drills for scenarios they could encounter during a convoy, including encounters with roadside bombs.

“The purpose is to get the Marines more familiar with all the IA drills necessary to combat enemy forces,” said 1st Lt. Jessica M. Davis, a logistics officer with MWSS-271.

Squadron leaders are taking advantage of the environment to reinforce proven tactics techniques and procedures among their Marines, said Capt. Douglas T. Pugh, MWSS-271 operations officer.

“Field training offers the ability for us to identify strengths and weaknesses that is not possible in garrison training,” said Pugh. “We were able to evaluate and refine our practices as a squadron.”

Pugh said MWSS-271 Marines’ hard work will pay dividends for the entire aircraft wing.

“The training improved MWSS-271’s mission readiness and proficiency, which will improve the aviation ground support the squadron can perform in garrison or combat for 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing units,” he said.
