Afghan commandos detain 26, find explosives in eastern Afghanistan

EASTERN AFGHANISTAN - Afghan special operations commandos detained 26 suspected insurgents and discovered 18 kg of explosives in two operations Aug. 15 in eastern Afghanistan.

Commandos from the 1st Special Operations Kandak captured the 26 suspects in Kunar province’s Khas Kunar district. Meanwhile, commandos from the 2nd SOK found the explosives during clearing operations in Ghazni province’s Waghez district.

The operations were launched in an attempt to disrupt insurgent activity and eliminate Taliban weapons stockpiles in the region. The operations are currently ongoing. Additional information will follow at the conclusion of the operations.
