PARWAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan- Forty-seven Guardians graduated from the Afghan Local Police (ALP) training course during a ceremony at the Kohi Safi District Center in Parwan province, Aug. 5.

The new guardians will return to their villages in Kohi Safi district and employ their newly acquired skills to bolster security for the villagers.

Afghan National Security Forces train ALP candidates on a strict regimen that includes Afghan Rule of Law, the Afghan Constitution, counter-improvised explosives device measures, first aid, and other security techniques.

“I am ready to protect the people of my village and keep the insurgents out,” said one new guardian. “It is important for us to earn the trust of the people by having good behavior and keeping the village safe.”

The Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan holds ALP to a high standard as the first line of defense in remote areas of Afghanistan.

“Not only are ALP there to keep the insurgents out of the villages, but they also provide security for each home, mosques, farms and gardens inside of that village,” said Brig. Gen. Ali Shah Ahmadzai, Ministry of Interior ALP Director. “The ALP presence leads to better district healthcare services and economy-driven development projects.”

Afghan Local Police complement counterinsurgency efforts by providing security support to rural areas with limited Afghan National Security Forces presence by enabling conditions for improved security, governance, and development.
