Oak Grove, Ky. - Kangaroo Express sponsored the Salute Our Troops Family Fun Night to raise money for several charitable foundations. The USO, National Guard, Fisher House and several others will use the money to help veterans in need.
Facts:
- Free event: 3,000 tickets given away. Free with military ID.
- Last year the event raised more than $30,000 for USO Fort Campbell.
- Event featured several vendors: USO Canteen, All Veterans Parachute Team, several bounce houses, a climbing wall, 2 concerts, and free food.
-The concerts were by Jaime Tate (country artist) and Outlaw 2-1.
- Jaime Tate sang as the All Veteran Parachute Team dropped onto the field.
- Outlaw 2-1 is named after the drummer's call sign while he was on active duty.
- The drummer, Dale Beatty, is in the running for CNN's Man of the Year for his philanthropy.
- He co-founded Purple Heart Homes to help veterans that have been injured overseas.
- He lost both his legs in Iraq when two antitank mines exploded under his Humvee.
- The Salute our Troops campaign has raised millions of dollars for
various charities that help veterans.
- The event had free hot dogs, cotton candy, popcorn and drinks.
