Rct. Edwin Siguenza, Platoon 1062, Charlie Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, stands in front of his platoon as they wait to begin their initial drill evaluation July 1, 2013, on Parris Island's main parade deck. Siguenza, a 19-year-old native of Ossining, N.Y., the platoon's guide, was the base of the platoon's formation throughout the evaluation. The recruits performed drill movements from the Marine Corps Drill and Ceremonies Manual. Close-order drill is used during recruit training to instill discipline, teamwork and pride. Charlie Company is scheduled to graduate Aug. 23, 2013. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915.
