Parris Island recruits introduced to Corps' combat firing

Basic combat rifle marksmanship is a crucial step in transforming recruits into proficient combat marksmen. Bravo Company is scheduled to graduate July 19, 2013. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island           

PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. - Recruits of Bravo Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, applied their newfound marksmanship skills to practice quick-draw combat shooting on one of Parris Island’s rifle ranges June 26, 2013.

Recruits fired a series of shooting drills during Basic Warrior Training as they progressed from the fundamentals of marksmanship taught a few weeks earlier. Bravo Company is scheduled to graduate July 19, 2013.
