JACKSONVILLE, N.C. - Lt. Col. Vincent Yasaki relinquished command of the Center of Naval Aviation Technical Training Marine Unit New River to Lt. Col. Martin Starta during of a change of command ceremony at the CNATT building, June 27.

The ceremony began at 9 a.m. with the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing band taking the stage and commanding the attention of those in attendance.

Yasaki enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1992 as a field radio operator.

He was then selected to attend Officer Candidate School in 1993.

Yasaki’s former assignments include, maintenance material control officer of Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 165, operations officer of Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 16 and officer in charge of CNATT at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif.

During the ceremony, Yasaki passed the unit’s colors to Starta, a symbolic gesture showing the passing of command to the new commanding officer.

“A (unit’s) success is a direct reflection of the hard work given by the Marines of that unit,” said Yasaki. “I’d like to thank the staff members for the tremendous work they have provided the unit.”

Yasaki also took time to thank his wife Debbie and his children for the continued support they have provided him over the years.

Starta enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1987 and served as a support equipment electrician until he was selected to attend Officer Candidate School in 1995.

When it was his time to address CNATT for the first time as it’s commanding officer, Starta took the opportunity to recall his time as the operations officer of CNATT.

“I jokingly told the commanding officer that I wasn’t here to just be the operation officer,” said Starta. “I told him I was coming after his job, so it’s fitting that I am here before you today. I look forward to the task of being in command and of the joys that come with it.”
