News: 1st SOK commandos kill 8 insurgents in Nangarhar

NANGARHAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Commandos from the 1st Special Operations Kandak killed eight insurgents in Acheen district, Nangarhar province, June 20.
Insurgents opened fire with rocket propelled grenades and PKMs as commandos conducted a clearing operation in Mohmand valley, near the Shadel Bazaar. The commandos immediately returned fire and overpowered the enemy fighters, killing eight.
“We conducted clearing operations here to eliminate the insurgents’ activities and take back the places under Taliban control,” said Lt. Col. Mussoud Stanakzai, 1st SOK Commander. “We have secured this area so that the people can live peaceably and safely.”
Progress in Afghanistan is real and tangible. With the announcement of the fifth and final tranche of provinces to enter transition to full Afghan security responsibility, the Afghan National Army Special Operations Command will mark the achievement of securing Mohmand valley as another important milestone for Afghanistan.
“The insurgents in this area were relentless and had no mercy on the people. They performed suicide bombings, beheaded innocent civilians, and destroyed mosques.” said Maj. Gen. Mohammad Amin Sharif, Nangarhar Provincial Chief of Police. “The commandos performed well during this clearing operation and I have not received any reports of civilian deaths or damages to personal property.”
Afghan National Army Special Forces Commandos are an elite group that conducts high-risk operations in remote areas known to be enemy strongholds. These counterinsurgency missions assist national and local police in their efforts to increases in security, governance, and development.
