Story by Sgt. April de Armas

    82nd Combat Aviation Brigade

Fort Bragg, N.C. – June marks the month that fathers on Fort Bragg will be honored by their families. For one 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade family, Father’s Day brings a special blessing as they welcome the newest addition to their family.

This will be the first time in two years Sgt. Glen Churchill has spent Father’s Day with his two older children and it will be his first year with his new baby.

Glen and his wife, Staff Sgt. Jennifer Churchill, both serve with the 82nd CAB’s Headquarters and Headquarters Company. They welcomed their daughter, Annabella Churchill, to the family April 16.

The news that Jennifer was expecting came as the couple returned from deployment in 2012.

“We wanted to wait until after the deployment,” Glen said. “So, when we found out she was pregnant, we were excited.”

Both Mr. and Mrs. Churchill have been in the Army since 2005. They were married in December of 2010 just before moving to Fort Bragg, N.C.

“We met while we were stationed at Fort Lewis,” Glen said. “We worked together in the (operations) shop and were friends for over a year before we started dating.”

This year Glen and Jennifer are especially excited because they will also have Glen’s children from a previous marriage, son Ryan, 10 and daughter Kylei, seven, visiting for the summer.

“We pick up the kids this week and I know they are excited to meet their new sister,” Glen said. “It is tough being away from them, especially during deployments, but Jennifer and I have a lot planned with the family this year.”

The Churchills plan on making use of the many Morale, Welfare and Recreation offerings this summer as they enjoy the extra family time.

“We have the baby set up in daycare here on Fort Bragg through the Child and Youth Services and the bigger kids will go to summer camp,” Jennifer said. “Plus, we use the travel center here on Fort Bragg to go to the zoo and various other attractions in the surrounding area. I love the discounts and it makes planning easy for the kids.”

Although, baby Annabella is the couple’s first baby together, they plan on having more in the future.

“I definitely want to have more children,” Jennifer said. “But we want to take our time, get used to this first, and just enjoy our daughter.”

Glen said that he is proud of his children and understands that time is precious.

“Being a father means everything to me,” Glen said. “My kids are my world. I do what I do for them and I can’t wait to spend as much time as possible with each of them.”
