SINGAPORE – U.S. 7th Fleet flagship USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19) arrived in Singapore as part of the ship's current patrol June 8.

Blue Ridge is conducting port visits throughout the South Indo-Asia Pacific region to strengthen ties and enhance partnerships with allies.

Volunteers from Blue Ridge, which include embarked 7th Fleet staff and Marines assigned to Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team Pacific, will spend time with children from two non-profit organizations.

“I think it's imperative for sailors to volunteer their time,” said Yeoman 3rd Class Ziyang Guo. “Not only does volunteering establish positive relations, it shows our initiative, cooperation and desire to be a compassionate and helpful country.”

Blue Ridge's Morale, Welfare and Recreation committee (MWR) has organized opportunities for crew members to experience everything Singapore has to offer, from theme parks to cultural sights.

“These tours are a way for sailors to enjoy local attractions, interact with the people and get involved in their culture,” said MWR Leading Chief Petty Officer Chief Operations Specialist Damiean Williams. “Singapore and the U.S. have developed a great relationship over the years, and I know this port visit is going to strengthen our alliance even further.”

Blue Ridge has been forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan, for nearly 34 years. As the flagship for Commander, U.S. 7th Fleet, Vice Adm. Scott H. Swift, Blue Ridge is vital in forging partnerships in the 7th Fleet area of operations.
