    GALVESTON, Texas – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District Deputy Commander Maj. Marty Maldonado was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel by Commander Col. Christopher W. Sallese June 3, 2013, at a ceremony hosted at the district’s headquarters building in Galveston, Texas.

    Maldonado was joined by his wife and son, who pinned on his new silver oak leaf rank insignia on his uniform.

    “This is a big moment for the Galveston District,” said Sallese. “We mark our successes with the people we work with and the Army has certainly seen the potential in Maj. Maldonado.”

    Maldonado thanked his wife and family for their support throughout his 17-year-career with the Army.

    “I am thankful to my wife and my entire family for standing by my side and holding down the home front during multiple deployments throughout my career,” said Maldonado. “Whether I was in Macedonia, Kosovo, Iraq or Afghanistan, my wife has been my support system, standing strong with my family at home.”

    Maldonado was born in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. He graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology in 1996. He received his commission through Army ROTC and later graduated from the Engineer Officers Basic Course in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

    In 2000, Maldonado graduated from the Engineer Officer Advanced Course and earned a Master of Science in Geology and Geophysics from the Missouri University of Science and Technology.

    Maldonado’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (2), Meritorious Service Medal (5), Army Commendation Medal (2), Army Achievement Medal (2), National Defense Service Medal (2), Iraq Campaign Medal (2), Afghanistan Campaign Medal (3), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Ribbon (3), Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge and the Bronze Order of the De Fleury Medal.

    Maldonado joined the district in 2012. His is scheduled to assume his next assignment in 2014.
