FORT JACKSON, S.C. – Maj. Gen. Marcia Anderson, Deputy Chief, Army Reserve, was honored as a Distinguished Member of the Regiment (DMOR) at the Adjutant General (AG) Corps Hall of Fame during a ceremony here on May 31.

Anderson’s selection as DMOR came as a surprise to her. “This is very unexpected,” Anderson said. “But I’m very honored.” She added that to be honored by other members of her career field was a humbling experience. “Someone had to nominate me for it. I have no idea who would have done that.”

Anderson also has the historic distinction of being the first female, African-American Major General in the Army, having been promoted in 2011.

As the Deputy Chief, Army Reserve, Anderson’s responsibilities include developing professional training and leadership programs for the over 200,000 Army Reserve soldiers serving their country around the world.

The Army Reserve’s mission is to provide trained, equipped, and ready soldiers and cohesive units to meet global requirements across the full range of military operations. It consists of more than 200,000 highly-skilled members in 148 career fields that provide life-saving and life-sustaining forces for Joint Force operations.
