JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii - Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam’s (JBPHH) Coalition for Sailors Against Destructive Decisions (CSADD) held a freeze mob at the Fleet Store here, Friday, May 24.

“We choose a freeze mob because we know it’s attention grabbing,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Bryant McNeill, JBPHH Port Operations. “We figured it would be an unorthodox and great way to get a great message out about suicide prevention, sexual assault awareness, and the overall mission of CSADD for the Memorial Day weekend.”

According to McNeill, the CSADD group chose the start to the holiday weekend to hold this event, as preventative maintenance. They also want the sailors out there to know their shipmates care and there are many options available when it comes to liberty.

“We’re a group of Sailors that care about other shipmates and we’re just trying to spread the word on suicide prevention, sexual assault awareness, non-alcoholic holiday liberty events – to put out a good message to the Navy,” he said.

Many of the sailors that participated had a four-day weekend for the holiday, but they wanted to take the time out of their liberty to spread the important message.

“It’s for a good cause,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Tiffany Johns. “My mom’s best friend was killed by a drunk driver, that kind of thing affects everyone. It’s definitely something we all need to be aware of. Too many times a sailor gets swept under a rug, just because no one was paying attention, so I think we really need to get it out there that there are ways to help. There are people out there willing to help, you’re not going to do it alone.”
