DONA ANA RANGE COMPLEX, N.M. - Lt. Gen. Keith C. Walker, TRADOC deputy commanding general, Futures, and the director of Army Capabilities Integration Center, visited Fort Bliss and surrounding training areas to speak with leaders and Soldiers about emerging technology during the Network Integration Evaluation 13.2 on May 13.

NIE is a series of semi-annual evaluations to adapt and improve the Army’s network – the Soldier’s Internet – to connect troops across the battlefield. Soldiers of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, have spent several weeks evaluating systems of the backbone of the Army’s tactical network, the Warfighter Information Network – Tactical (WIN-T) Increment 2 in rugged operational environments.

“We’re testing WIN-T Increment 2, and WIN-T Increment 2 is the foundation of the network,” said Walker. “Because it’s the centerpiece, we have to make sure the test is a valid test.”

On his visit, he spoke with troops from 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, at Dona Ana Range Complex, N.M., who have worked with several systems for possible integration into the Army’s network.

Among these systems are the Nett Warrior, an integrated, dismounted situational awareness and mission command system for use during combat operations and the Tactical Communication and Protective System, which allows soldiers to hear sounds at enhanced levels with better clarity while reducing or removing exposure to hazardous impulse noises to prevent hearing loss.

ARCIC develops, evaluates, and integrates concepts, requirements, and solutions for the Army to provide soldiers and units the capabilities they need to support combatant commanders.
