ALP and AUP Engage Enemy in Baraki Barak, Two Insurgents Killed
WARDAK PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Members of the Afghan Local Police and Afghan Uniformed Police overcame a Taliban insurgent attack in Qary-a-Malik village, Baraki Barak district, Wardak province, killing two enemy insurgents and wounding three others, April 12.
As ALP and AUP conducted a joint patrol in the vicinity of Qary-a-Malik and Qary-a-Shaki villages, approximately 20 enemy fighters ambushed the combined forces with small arms fire.
The joint patrol returned fire with PKMs, AK47s and rocket-propelled grenades, killing two enemy insurgents. The ALP and AUP maneuvered toward the enemy position, forcing the remaining fighters to retreat from the area.
There were no civilian casualties or structural damage reported as a result of the engagement.
The Afghan Local Police complement counterinsurgency efforts through combined operations with Afghan Uniformed Police to enable conditions for improved security, governance, and development.
“Our mortars were effective. We know we killed a couple of enemies during the fight,” said the Baraki Barak ALP Commander. “We know that the Taliban is scared. They should be.”
