YOKOSUKA, Japan – The Easter Bunny with help from Fleet Activities (FLEACT), Yokosuka Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) spread Easter greetings and Easter eggs across the softball fields behind George I. Purdy Fitness Complex.

According to popular legend, and much like Santa Claus at Christmas, the Easter Bunny delivers candy or prize-filled eggs to good girls and boys on Easter Sunday.

So, with so many children from military families present in Yokosuka, it was only natural for the Easter Bunny to show up in person, or rather in bunny.

“These are great kids and they deserve the same Easter experience that they would have back in their home towns,” said Bunny. “It’s a lot of fun to see them out here collecting the eggs that my helpers and I laid out for them.”

The helpers were MWR and Navy Fitness workers who said they knew the Easter Bunny personally.

Sailors from some shore commands and the ships forward-deployed to the area also volunteered their time to help the Easter Bunny.

“It’s been a lot of fun hopping around out here with the kids. Everyone has been having a great time,” said Bunny. “Some are pretty fast and got a lot of my eggs.”

The children were split into groups based on their age. The younger groups had parents accompany them out on to the field while the older kids ran out on their own. In the middle of the last group, the oldest kids at 8-years old and above, was a group of boys straining to stay behind the line and be the first ones to the eggs when the Easter Bunny said go.

“I’m pretty much the fastest kid out here,” said Kai Sullivan, standing with his friends who disagreed with that statement. “I’m going to run out there first and get the most eggs. My strategy is to move fast and stay ahead of everyone else.”

While Kai, his friends and all the other children finished clearing the field of eggs, the Easter Bunny bid a fond farewell to the residents of FLEACT, Yokosuka.

Additionally, the Easter Bunny made appearances at Negishi and Ikego Housing Detachments before hopping to the rest of the stops all across the globe.
