COLTS NECK, N.J. - Marine Corps Recruiting Station New Jersey and the Somerset County Coaches Association will host a press conference for the first ever Gunnery Sergeant John Basilone Bowl game on April 23, at Bridgewater-Raritan High School at 4 p.m.
The game will feature high school senior football players from 14 different schools in Somerset County. The schools include: Bernards, Bound Brook, Bridgewater-Raritan, Franklin, Hillsborough, Immaculata, Manville, Montgomery, North Plainfield, Pingry, Ridge, Somerville, Watchung, and Delaware Valley.
Gunnery Sergeant John Basilone, of Raritan, New Jersey, was awarded the Medal of Honor in recognition of his outstanding heroism at Guadalcanal during World War II. Later, during the Iwo Jima campaign, he was killed in action on D-Day, 19 February 1945. Bridgewater-Raritan High School Field House is dedicated to his memory.
The game will be held on June 28th at Bridgewater-Raritan High School.
