Joint Intelligence training, a smart affair

    FORWARD OPERATING BASE EAGLE, AFGHANISTAN

    02.11.2013

Story by Staff Sgt. Christopher Blakeslee

1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division

FORWARD OPERATING BASE EAGLE, Afghanistan-Soldiers assigned and attached to the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, Third Infantry Division, Combined Task Force Raider, along with the intelligence section of the 2nd Kandak, 205th Corps, Afghanistan National Army, as well as Romanian intelligence officers attended a multinational intelligence training event hosted by the ANA and facilitated by British contractors here, Feb. 11.

“We’re here to do some team building with the ANA and Romanians,” said Capt. Timothy Sorensen, an intelligence officer assigned to Headquarter and Headquarters Troop, 5th Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1ABCT, Third ID., CTF-R. “This type of training builds camaraderie amongst the intelligence communities for both the ANA and us, along with the Romanians,” the native of Cranbury, NJ stated. “The more knowledge we share, the better our MI sections will be at cross-talking. This training is designed to get our sections talking across the board and shows solidarity with our ANA and Romanian counterparts.”

While this training was energetically received by the soldiers of the Raider Brigade, the ANA troops were even more enthusiastic about not only participating in this event, but hosting it as well.

“This is so great to have our intelligence brothers and sisters here from the American soldiers of FOB Apache,” said an enthusiastic Capt. Abdul Kabar, the 2nd Kandak, 205th Corps, ANA intelligence commander. “We got to do some fun teambuilding exercise, and work alongside the American MI guys, we are a team and this training shows it!”

At the conclusion of the event, American, Romanian and ANA soldiers posed for photos before heading off to their respective places of duty, while the senior intelligence leadership teams broke bread over a traditional Afghan meal of chicken, beef and rice.

“The food was very good,” added a very full and satisfied Capt. Sorensen. “Our host, Capt. Kabar, did a wonderful job hosting this event. Everything went well and the soldiers had a good time interacting with one another. I hope we can do this again very soon in the future.”
