FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. - Blanchfield Army Community Hospital (BACH) command and staff join Army Medicine worldwide in honoring patients during Patient Recognition Month.
This year's theme, "Patients - The Heart of Army Medicine," will be celebrated during the month of February. Nationally, hospitals and healthcare services celebrate National Patient Recognition Week the first week of February. National Patient Recognition Day will be celebrated Feb. 3 this year.
BACH's healthcare team shares their commitment to patients throughout the year by offering special opportunities for patients to provide their feedback.
According to BACH Commander Col. Paul R. Cordts, there are multiple ways for patients to partner with health care team members.
"One important step of the partnership is to provide valuable feedback about their patient experience," said Cordts. "Patients help us identify possibilities for improvements to their health care."
One recent example of partnership efforts the hospital staff extended was the first-ever virtual Town Hall Jan. 24. Cordts said that patients' feedback is critical to us and we listen to what they have to say.
"While we honor our patients every day of the year, Patient Recognition Month gives us an additional chance to reinforce our partnership with our patients. Within the Fort Campbell community, our patients make many sacrifices daily. We want to show them that we not only appreciate their sacrifices, but also the way they partner with us to help offer them maximum healthy lifestyle opportunities through their health care experience. Blanchfield's health care team truly cares about our patients' overall well-being. It is our hope that our partnership enables them to live healthier lives," said Cordts.
BACH's staff members have joined together to offer three great opportunities in February to help show patients that they are valued.
Planned activities:
BACH's commander Col. Paul R. Cordts kicked off activities Feb. 1 at 11:30 a.m. with a cake-cutting ceremony in the Patient and Family Medical Resource Center.
BACH Dietician Capt. Christine Deehl is offering a wellness class in the Patient and Family Medical Resource Center Feb. 8 at 10 a.m. If you are struggling to lose weight, this class may be for you. The class will help you learn how to manage your weight in a healthy way and to feel better. If interested, patients will also have the opportunity to have their body fat and body mass index measured.
Local massage students are providing their valuable time to offer free 10-minute wellness massages to patients and staff on a first come, first served basis Feb. 8 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Patient and Family Medical Resource Center.
To reserve space for a 10-minute massage or for the Wellness Class call 270-798-8158. Limited seats are available.
The resource center is located on the 2nd floor of the hospital in B building, next to the laboratory.
Over 70,000 patients are enrolled to one of Blanchfield's primary care clinics with Blanchfield serving over 109,000 eligible beneficiaries.
As BACH staff members continue to recognize patients throughout 2013, BACH will be holding several ribbon cutting ceremony opportunities in the near future for patients' participation as primary care clinics shift to the patient-centered medical home model of care.
"The medical home model has been proven to increase patient satisfaction, which continues to be a top priority," said Cordts.
"We are committed to our patient's well being and satisfaction. Our patients are truly the heart of Army Medicine," said Cordts.
