    36th Infantry Division (TXARNG)

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Standing tall and proud in front of friends and family, soldiers of the 249th Finance Management Support Detachment, 36th Sustainment Brigade, 36th Infantry Division, Texas Army National Guard listened to parting words from their chain-of-command before embarking on a nine-month deployment to Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

“I have opportunity over these past few years to say words to units that are deploying and I just want to say to you now, God Speed,” said Brig. Gen. Stephen Sanders, 36th Infantry Division Commander – Support. “You are going at a very important time in that theatre of operation … and you will play an important role within that.”

The detachment’s mission falls during a turbulent time in the Middle East, and the need for United States military members to be trained and free to focus on tasks at hand has never been more paramount. With this being some of the detachments second or even third deployment over seas, the brigade commander feels they are up for the task.

“You are the best trained, the best equipped and I believe the best lead,” said Col. Albert Adkinson, 36th Sustainment Brigade commander. “It is time now to have confidence in your training, I cannot stress that enough, but more importantly have confidence in yourself. You are ready.”

The 249th FMSD started their training over a year ago, and will bring to the area a wide-range of financial assistance and services to the military members currently station in the area. These services will help ensure that those members are not focused monetary issues back home, but the mission that comes with operating bases that serve as major transportation hubs to Afghanistan and other areas in the region.

“To the deploying members of the 249th (FMSD), you have our ultimate respect,” said Col. Adkinson. “I fully believe that you will go forward and you will represent the United States Army and the state of Texas very, very well.”
