Story by Sgt. William E. Henry, 38th Sustainment Brigade
CAMP TAHREER, Kuwait - The 47th Transportation Company and Kuwait National Guard transportation soldiers participated in a joint partnership exercise at Camp Tahreer, Kuwait, Jan. 22.
Soldiers from both countries learned different ways to assess and approach a vehicle accident and techniques to apply first aid with improvised means. The soldiers used uniform tops as hasty neck braces, belts as tourniquets and practiced extraction techniques for accidents.
Master Sgt. Jay Febish, 38th Sustainment Brigade medical noncommissioned officer, said he developed a first aid exercise plan with the transportation realm of operations in mind and used basic materials.
“I kept it focused on transportation issues like motor pool accidents or vehicle accidents,” said Febish, from Lexington, Ky.
Kuwait National Guard soldier Pvt. Fahad Mijbil-Motlagh said he has never experienced joint first aid training before and found the training relevant and practical.
“I learned a lot about how to help an injured person in this type of situation,” said Motlagh. “It was a good experience. The information was very useful.”
Febish said he was please how everything turned out and the groups worked well and learned together.
“Any time you’re training and you feel like you impacted or given some knowledge that someone can take back to the unit level and train and build upon, or maybe even utilize in the civilian side with their families is great,” said Febish.
