DENVER, Colo. - Employees from Defense Contract Management Agency Lockheed Martin Denver kicked off the holiday season by presenting gifts to local elementary school students on Dec. 14. This marked the seventh year the contract management office has sponsored the Holiday Gift Program which provides underprivileged children with gifts.

It was a cold morning when the DCMA LMD elves loaded up their sleigh and headed to College View Elementary School where four classrooms full of eager children were waiting. As the group of DCMA representatives came into the room, children were sitting cross-legged in a circle.

“Each was excitedly waiting for their name to be called so they could receive their presents,” said Pamela Parker, DCMA LMD. “Then, all at once, wrapping paper went flying as if suddenly hit by a tornado and screams of delight could be heard for miles.”

After the storm had settled, and the children thanked everyone for their presents, the military elves (active duty DCMA personnel) became the center of attention. Children wanted photos with those in uniform, and the active duty personnel were happy participants. Before leaving, DCMA representatives were treated to a feast of enchiladas, egg rolls, and many other dishes brought in by the parents of the students.

The four classrooms sponsored are part of the federal Head Start program for children ages three to five years old. Because of the support of CMO employees, each of the 67 children received multiple presents as well as hats and gloves.

“We also had a few exceptional elves sponsor the Early Childhood Education classrooms,” said Parker. “These children were each given great little goodie bags, ensuring that all the young children in the school got something this holiday season.”

“I was really impressed by the generosity of our CMO,” said Rochelle DeCrescenzo, DCMA LMD. “I wish everyone could have seen the happiness we brought to those classrooms.”

Although only 12 people were able to help deliver presents, many more helped to wrap and collect the gifts. “The wrapping went extremely fast this year due to the great turnout,” said Mike Bazzo, DCMA LMD. “It really looked like Santa’s workshop was setup in a conference room.”

DCMA LMD plans to continue the Holiday Gift Program for many years to come.
