PINEVILLE, La. — Louisiana Army National Guardsman Patrick D. Jenkins of Opelousas, La., was promoted to the rank of major during a recent pinning ceremony by the 527th Engineer Battalion in Pineville, La.
Jenkins currently serves as the battalion operations officer and is an 18-year-veteran of the LANG.
"This is good for career progression," Jenkins explained. "The operations officer is a valuable part of the team and requires greater responsibilities."
Jenkins is a veteran of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom and served as the adjutant officer for the 769th Engineer Battalion in Baton Rouge, La., before transferring to the 527th.
"I know I can contribute to this organization based on my background," he added. "I have learned how to task the Soldiers around me and utilize the people around me based on their abilities to help the unit accomplish its tasks and goals."
527th Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Daniel P. Bordelon was on hand for the ceremony.
"He is an asset to our team," the New Orleans native explained. "We were lucky to add him as our operations officer, as he will offer more great ideas for our battalion."
Jenkins is married to the former Charlene Wheeler and has three children, Javon, 19; Kai, 15; and Zeri, 9.
