KABUL, Afghanistan — An International Security Assistance Force soldier was killed as a result of a direct fire attack in southern Afghanistan yesterday.
"ISAF mourns the loss of a brave service member who has made the ultimate sacrifice. I offer our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of our fallen colleague," said Capt. Mark Durkin Royal navy, ISAF spokesperson. "We know that this service member will always be remembered for helping to bring hope and peace to the people of Afghanistan."
It is ISAF policy not to release the nationality of any casualty prior to the relevant national authority doing so.
Next of kin have been notified.
