RESERVE, La. – Louisiana Army National Guard Sgt. 1st Class Christopher H. Davis of Metairie, La., is a familiar face in the local high school community of Reserve, La.

Davis met with 30 high school seniors at East St. John High School on Jan. 27 for an educational experience. His classroom presentation focused on the benefits and opportunities provided by the Louisiana National Guard.

"Each month, I come to speak with the students so they can have a better understanding of what the National Guard is. I make it a point to inform them and present them with new opportunities for their futures," said Davis, who is assigned to LANG's Recruiting and Retention Command.

"Most of the students don't get the hard facts on what the National Guard is all about. By taking the time to speak with them, I give them a chance to decide for themselves," he continued.

Davis spoke to the students about the many different roles and duties of a National Guard Soldier, as well as Basic Combat Training, job skills training and college benefits.

"With these visits, I am able to present everything that the National Guard has to offer and give them one more option in life," stressed Davis. "The visits are scheduled throughout the academic school year and encourage the students to start preparing themselves for their futures."

Through his regular visits to the school, he has been able to form strong relationships with faculty and students, like Ronniasha C. Tapp of New Orleans, who is a senior at East St. John High School.

Tapp enlisted into the Guard during her junior year and completed BCT this past summer at Fort Jackson, S.C.

"It's been a big change for me since joining the National Guard," Tapp said. "I have accomplished things that I would have never thought I could do. Before arriving at basic training, I never thought I would be able to run two miles or even shoot an M-16," she laughed.

"I think I've set up a brighter future for myself with the National Guard," the 18-year-old private continued.

"I would definitely recommend becoming a part of the Louisiana Army National Guard to any of my friends and family. If you like traveling, staying in shape, good benefits and experience, this is the way to go," she added.

Tapp is schedule to complete Advance Individual Training after her high school graduation and carry out her duties as a Guardsman with the 1084th Transportation Company in Reserve, La.
