2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division
CAMP BUEHRING, Kuwait — It's not uncommon to meet two brothers who both serve in the Army, but it's a little more unusual to meet a pair who serves in the same division.
Yet, for the Grevious twins, Sean and Chris, they serve in the same brigade.
The twins, who were born in Plainfield, N.J., are both platoon leaders within the "Black Jack" Brigade. Sean is assigned to the 4th Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, and Chris is in the 3rd Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd BCT, 1st Cav. Div.
Even their specific jobs sound similar; Chris is a fire directions officer, and Sean is a fire support officer. The similarities do not end here.
After Sept. 11, the brothers, who were still in high school, were looking for a way they could serve their nation. "What a better thing to do than support our country," Sean said.
The opportunity presented itself when they were both recruited to play football for U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. After graduation, the brothers were commissioned into the Army.
Just joining the Army was not enough for the twins. Chris decided to go to the U.S. Army Ranger School and was soon followed by his brother.
By the time Sean followed Chris to Ranger School, the instructors were a little shocked to see him. The instructors joked, thinking that he was Chris, and that he must have been recycled back to the beginning of the training. Yet he, like his brother before him, completed the training on his first try.
"It was a challenge and a great leadership school," Chris commented.
Both brothers were assigned to Fort Hood, Texas, but originally they were on separate sides of the base. After Chris joked with his battalion commander about his brother coming to the same brigade, the commander made a phone call. Next thing they knew, both brothers were in 2nd BCT.
"He thought it would be a good idea if we both stayed together," Chris said.
Chris said they are both looking forward to being in the same area once they reach Iraq.
"We are going to be seeing a lot of each other," Sean said. "Our biggest concern is making sure everyone comes home safely."
Once the brothers return home, they said they are not sure how long they will be able to stay in the same area, but the brothers said they have had good luck so far.
