FORWARD OPERATING BASE GARRY OWEN, Iraq - Iraqi army soldiers went door to door distributing food and blankets to citizens in Majar al Kabir on the southeastern Iraqi border, Jan. 12.

"I am from this neighborhood [and] work as an Iraqi policeman," said Ali Wahid Nama al Gharanii. "What the U.S. and Iraqi security [forces] do is good; it is good to help our poor people, and I hope they will continue to help. These things make the area more safe and secure."

The 2nd Battalion, 38th Iraqi Army Brigade soldiers visited the community to spread goodwill and encourage cooperation from the citizens in the Maysan province.

"I am thankful for what the American and Iraqi forces are doing for us by distributing these things, and I hope they continue this work in the future" said Abud Hashim Al Suhaydawi, a retiree from the Midar District in Majar al Kabir.

At the end of the day, when they handed the last of the blankets and boxes of food to the local residents, said Akil Khathym Chalub, an IA first sergeant who helped lead and direct the humanitarian mission, reflected on the efforts of his Soldiers.

"Today, with the Americans by our side, we did good work," said Chalub. "We helped improve security here. I believe when the children see this work, it will change their thoughts about Iraqi and U.S. forces, and they will not listen to the people who do not like us. As an Iraqi citizen, I am thankful for the work we do together for my country."

Every day in Majar Al Kabir, partnered operations between ISF and coalition forces are contributing to the increasing security for the people of Majar Al Kabir.
