BAGHDAD – Iraqi security forces arrested a suspected criminal Jan. 14 in Baghdad's Rashid district and found weapons caches across Baghdad Jan. 15.
At approximately 11:45 a.m. Jan. 14 in the Shurta neighborhood, Iraqi Soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 53rd Brigade, 14th Iraqi Army Division, partnered with Company C, 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Inf. Div., Multi-National Division – Baghdad detained one individual wanted on a warrant issued by the Baghdad Operations Center. The suspect, wanted for murder and insurgent activity, was taken to a nearby Joint Security Station to be processed.
"The ISF are doing a good job of conducting full-spectrum operations at all hours of the day in the Rashid district," said Maj. Dave Olson, spokesman, 1st BCT, 4th Inf. Div. "The Soldiers of the 1st 'Raider' Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, continue to provide over watch as the ISF step up their efforts of securing their country and providing security for the people of Iraq."
At approximately 9:30 a.m. Jan. 15, Iraqi army Soldiers serving with 1st Battalion, 25th Brigade, 17th IA Division, seized a cache that contained 60 60 mm mortars, 50 hand grenades, a mortar tube, two mortar stands and home-made explosive ingredients south of Baghdad.
Acting on a citizen's tip, Soldiers serving with Company D, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, attached to 1st BCT, 4th Inf. Div., working together with Iraqi army Soldiers serving with 2nd Battalion, 55th Brigade, 17th IA Div., seized a cache that contained several small improvised-explosive devices made from homemade explosive, a small amount of detonation cord and a magnetic IED at approximately 6 p.m. in the western Baghdad neighborhood of West Rashid. Citizen tips have helped in the seizure of numerous weapons caches in this neighborhood.
At approximately 8 p.m. in West Rashid area, Iraqi army Soldiers serving with 1st Battalion, 24th Brigade, 6th IA Division, found a cache that contained a 60 mm mortar, an anti-tank mine and an undetermined number of mortar fuses.
