The military wife is said to have the toughest job in the Army.

One Army wife, living in Clarksville, Tenn., is finally getting the recognition she deserves.

Judy Thomsen is a finalist in the 2008 Mother of the Year competition held by Nashville television station WSMV.

"I don't know where she finds the time to do anything. It would wear me out," said her husband, Staff Sgt. Eric Thomsen, who is currently deployed with the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, in Iraq.

Like so many Army wives, Judy has taken on the responsibilities of a single parent and more while her husband Eric fights terrorism in Iraq.

According to her husband, Judy juggles her basic familial duties with those usually handled by him in addition to running the Family Readiness Group for the 426th Brigade Support Battalion.

During the last several months, she has been instrumental in organizing FRG functions that encourage support and the strengthening of the Army family.

"They are constantly looking for ways to reach out to the families to make it easier on the wives and kids," said Eric, who is on his second tour in Iraq.

Thomsen is the paradigm for the Army spouse, said her husband who laughs about the fact that she told her parents that she would never marry a military man.

"Lo and behold, she did," said Eric. "It's actually quite funny."

Judy is representative of Army wives across the world, who carry the weight of the world on their backs while their loved ones defend freedom.

"If it wasn't for the wives on the home front, I don't think that we would be having the success that we have now," said Eric.

As for the Mother of the Year contest, Thomsen said his wife is well deserving of that title. "I don't see how the heck she does it, I really don't."
