LOGISTICS SUPPORT AREA ADDER, Iraq - Soldiers in Battery A, 3rd Battalion, 319th Field Artillery, 82nd Airborne Division's Devil Rock 56 convoy escort team came to the aid of two Iraqi army soldiers recently.
Devil Rock 56 was forced to make a short halt to repair a flat tire along the main route when two Iraqi army soldiers approached the crew. These men were bruised and bloodied and, though they spoke little English, they were able to say both "IA" (Iraqi army) and "IED," (improvised explosive device) leading Devil Rock 56's team to believe they had recently been hit by an IED while on patrol.
The platoon medic, Pfc. Philip Johnson, Btry. A, 3rd Bn., 319th FA, quickly evaluated their wounds and assessed that they had received only minor scrapes and bruises from their contact with the enemy and did not require a medical evacuation. The medic then bandaged their open wounds and gave them Motrin to ease their pain. Finally, Devil Rock 56 coordinated the linkup between the Iraqi army soldiers and the local coalition forces unit to facilitate further medical treatment.
