MOSUL, Iraq— The 7th Brigade, 2nd Iraqi army division, conducted a good-neighbor mission to distribute school supplies and book bags to students at Al Sahaba School in Mosul, Iraq, Nov. 5.

"We need to protect the future of Iraq," said Col. Salah Adeziz, executive officer, 7/2 IA Division. "This is a very important thing that I wanted to do now with the Coalition forces. For our students, we hold nothing back. We support them with supplies, food, anything that we can do."

The IA colonel recognized that building good relationships with the people was important. This mission was just one example of the IA's efforts to reach out to their community, said Salah.

"Believe me, any support for the students; civilian people is good," Salah said. "Any support from the IA and from the coalition forces can make a very good relationship between IA and the students. They will talk about us. They will see the IA and the coalition forces working together. It will make a good future for the children to see that."

The teachers welcomed the IA and the U.S. Forces into the school yard and the students greeted all with smiles.

"The ISF help the city and protect the security for us," said Idrahim Salileh, teacher, Al Sahaba School. "They make the students happy and encourage them to study hard and work hard."

Several of the children received their gifts directly from Salah with smiles and Salah conveyed great confidence and determination about the future.

"There is nothing that will make us stop working with our children, with our people," Salah said. "We are all working together; American forces, Iraqi forces and coalition forces, all are shaking hands and helping each other. All of Iraq is working together."
