KABUL, Afghanistan - Herat University, one of the six universities in Afghanistan, held an appreciation presentation for the work and donations of Italian Provincial Reconstruction Team Herat at the university, Dec. 8, after the PRT provided them a consignment of IT equipment.

Mohammad Toufiq Rahmany, dean of the art faculty, and Dr. Mohammad Asan Farid, deputy of the medical faculty, both expressed their personal thanks for the assistance given their departments.

"The cooperation between PRT Herat and our university is both effective and useful in improving the quality of art and the presentation of comprehensive lectures for the students," said Rahmany.

"We need a professional faculty in the region," said Dr. Farid, "but we still need so much."

"The cooperation and support we enjoy today from the Italian PRT has given us hope for a better future," said Rahmany.

"This is the first time PRT Herat has been directly involved in supporting the university with equipment," said Italian Army Capt. Mirko Radi, Civil Military Cooperation Centre commander. "We plan to continue to support them as funds become available."

PRT Herat also has another project currently underway, providing a greenhouse for the agricultural department, as well as fertilizer, trees and tools to enable the students to practice what they are studying.
