By the International Security Assistance Force - Afghanistan Public Affairs Office
KABUL, Afghanistan — International Security Assistance Force's Regional Command-West recently held the first course for local journalists with the help of the Italian defense staff.
Giampaolo Cadalanu, a journalist with Italy's "la Repubblica," guided the classes with the intent to improve the formation of journalism in Afghanistan.
Brigadier General Paolo Serra, RC-West commander, first mentioned the possibility of promoting journalism during an interview with an Afghan reporter soon after taking command in early October.
In addition to the course, ISAF's Herat Provincial Reconstruction Team has supported the local press through improving their offices and providing furniture, computers, printers and scanners.
The goal is to help develop the Afghan society through the promotion of a free and democratic press.
