Coast Guard Art Program 2000 Collection, Object Id# 200037, "Out of the Mist--A CG Rescue," Dana A. Nash
A Coast Guard cutter rescues Haitians packed aboard a makeshift boat with a rusting body and masts crudely fashioned from a chopped tree. The passengers are young and old alike, draped over the sides, their arms outstretched.
This rescue painting was conceived during the time of Elian Gonzales' arrival in the United States in 1999, after being rescued from a Cuban vessel that sunk off the coast of Miami.
