Cpl. Mattheau J. Ross is a low altitude air defense gunner 2nd Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion aboard Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C. Because of the nature of his job as an air defense gunner, Ross is required to learn about and identify all types of aircraft in a combat zone. He has to be able to identify the make and model of an aircraft quickly, indicating whether it’s enemy or a friendly. Retaining this key knowledge is the most difficult and important part of his job, said Ross.
